Wednesday Check In

Hello Parents of Room 13!

It has been a whirlwind of a couple of days and we are starting to fall into routine.
Students have been exploring centers, writing, reading and art.
Today we introduced the calendar routine.  We will be familiarizing ourselves with the seasons and how they fit into particular months as the year progresses. In the next few days we will be introducing daily weather into our morning routines.  This will include appropriate clothing and materials needed for each season.  I will be posting specific vocabulary as we use it more in class.

You will have noticed a red folder that came home today with your child's art on it.  This is the Communication Folder that should come back and forth to school each day in your child's back pack.  Notes and permission slips should be returned to me in this folder; I will be sending notices and communication pieces home in it.

Today there was a short homework piece that should be returned to me in the next day or so - it is called  My Special Name.
It is information on your child's name which will supplement our discussions and sharing circle meetings as we learn more about each other in class.  If you have any questions, please email me.

Finally, we have started writing our ideas by exploring a book called First Day Jitters which had an amusing twist at the end - ask your child about it!  (Ask them who was REALLY scared about the first day of school - hint, it was NOT the student....)

Then we drew and wrote about things that gave use the jitters.
Here are some things students wrote about:

Sleep overs
The dark
Starting soccer
Going to school
Going to camp
Monsters
Bullies
Scary dreams
Writing tests
A story about a cheetah would was nervous about the first day of hunting lessons
Sports
An anaconda
Bears

As you can see - there are lots of creativity and ideas in Room 13 this year!
